Guidance notes for the contents of your
own web page.
Wording
Objective: Imagine
a potential new client who has looked at the Healer Foundation
web site, understands a bit about the therapies and has now
found you on the list of practitioners. They are typically
reserved and indecisive. Your key objective is simply to
persuade them to pick up the phone and contact you.
Tone: Some
practitioners write about their life and how they personally
discovered their therapy - this makes them very approachable,
normal people.
Remember that you are painting a picture
with words to someone who is hesitating before picking up
the phone. So include all those things about your experience,
personality, treatment area and general approach to therapy
that will encourage potential clients to make up their mind
to contact you.
Close with an invitation to make contact,
because you want to help them overcome their problem (rephrase
in your own words). This final sentance is important! Tell
them to phone you today!
Experience: If
you have any specialist areas (ie treating children, pets,
stress etc) then you could mention them, but include the
comment that you see clients with a wide range of problems.
Testimonials: These
are always reassuring and everyone loves
to read them. Keep them fairly brief and do get permission
from your clients to disclose their details.
Your therapies: The
main web site contains descriptions of the main therapies.
However, you should describe the range of therapies that
you can offer.
Word Count: Aim
for around 200 to 350 words in total. If you end up with
lots more, then the page will probably appear too long, so
I suggest you précis it - although if you really want
to include more words, there is no arbitrary limit. However,
overlong pages are more likely to be ignored by internet
users - but the choice is yours.
Your picture:
Many therapists are self-conscious. However,
it is much easier for any visitor to reach for the phone
if they can visualise who they are calling. The web page
without a picture looks less balanced and will probably
be less effective. However, you can use a picture of your
clinic or therapy centre, if you prefer.
If you have a digital camera, then you can send a JPG image. I will adjust
the size etc. Or if you have a conventional photograph, I can scan it to produce
an image for the web page (please include an sae if you want it posted back)
Map link:
I will include a link to a map page (Multimap)
which shows where you work. It is based on your post code
and visitors can print off the map that appears, if they
want. It can save you hours of explanation, giving directions
over the phone!
